Hosting your first and even second event can be a challenge, it takes time, money and hard work. And if you don’t achieve the results you hoped for it can be very disappointing. But, if you follow these useful tips the next one might be a winner!
Note: We can’t guarantee success 😉
Defining your target audience is a very important step when you are organizing an event. And try to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach, one audience has different needs than another. A good way to define your audience is to start well in advance with online marketing.
Let potential attendees vote in online polls for what speaker they want to see, what kind of topics and more. This will give you a good view of what people want, what kind of event you should organize and for who.
As much as you would like, people do not only come to your event to consume your provided content, they also want to network with the other attendees.
So don’t forget to schedule some networking opportunities in your program, like for example a networking drink after the speaker sessions.
Wi-Fi is a must-have. In this modern day and age, it almost seems normal to have it at your event but, it’s something organizers might forget.
People want to share experiences, thoughts and opinions as they happen. If you want them to be interactive during your event you should provide Wi-Fi.
And if you’re planning on doing more events in the future it’s great commercial. People who are at your event talking about your event in a positive way will create some buzz for the future.
Set a goal on what you want to achieve, a very easy and obvious one can be the number of attendees. For the purpose of the event, you should look at different things. Is it to bring people together, train people or something else.
And having a really clear understanding of why you are doing it is the best way to deal with the stress of putting an event together.
Finding a great venue is very important. It should be easy to reach for attendees if they come by public transport. And if they come by car there should be a parking space and so on.
Another thing to keep in mind is the choose a flexible venue with a range of different spaces. Just imagine, you book the biggest room in the building but you only sell half of your tickets. In a case like this, there should be a possibility to switch to a smaller space.

A while ago, Facebook announced a few changes to our newsfeed. Posts of friends and family are now considered as more important than posts from companies. This means that you will see more baby photos, couple selfies and travel pictures in your timeline. Facebook wants to show you more newsfeed updates you actually care about, from people you often interact with. These posts are more likely to generate conversations. At first sight, this is bad news for many companies. As a fan or a follower, you could miss newsfeed updates from companies you are interested in, and you might see less announcements, promotions or articles.
