In July, the Port of Antwerp launches its very first water bus over the river Scheldt. Everybody’s welcome during the celebration weekend on 1 and 2 July at the Steenplein. Cherry on the cake: you can enjoy a free boat tour during the whole month of July!
For many years, the Port of Antwerp has shown that economic and ecological interests can be combined without a problem. One of the port community’s ‘hot potatoes’ is sustainable transport over water. Therefore the water bus over the river Scheldt is launched on 1 July 2017. The water bus a permanent alternative for commuter traffic to, from and in the city. An ecological addition to Antwerp’s public transport system!
Permanent water bus
The water bus brings you from Hemiksem via Kruibeke to the Steenplein in the center of Antwerp (ponton Van Dijck). In combination with other ferry services (Hoboken-Kruibeke, Bazel-Hemiksem, new ferry between the Steenplein and Linkeroever) passengers are easily transported over the Scheldt via 6 departure points. There are plans to expand Antwerp’s water bus to other departure points in the future. In this way, it will become a full alternative to the busy commuter traffic.
Celebration weekend
On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July, the Port of Antwerp organizes a celebration weekend at the Steenplein. All tickets for a free boat ride during this particular weekend are unfortunately sold out, but the good news is that you can make a free water bus tour during the whole month of July!
